Proclamation
WHEREAS, the events of September 11, 2001 brought forth many tributes and commemorations throughout our nation; and
WHEREAS, Pleasant Hill resident Bill Richmond wanted to do something to remember the victims of September 11; and
WHEREAS, with his own ideas, energy and funds Mr. Richmond has built and maintained a 400-foot memorial garden that was once a patch of weeds, but now is full of wildflowers and small trees on a plot of land on Camelback Road behind his home; and
WHEREAS, this "Labor of Love" has been maintained and named by him "Twin Towers Memorial Park," a place that will long be remembered as a garden in memory of those who suffered in the terrorism attacks last year.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVID E. DURANT, Mayor of the City of Pleasant Hill, do hereby proclaim October 21, 2002 as
"BILL RICHMOND DAY"
in the City of Pleasant Hill, honoring a resident whose dedication and efforts have made a difference in our community and nation that will continue to commemorate September 11, 2001.
